Lenny Life Changer

I know it sounds a bit dramatic, but Lenny changed my life.

For those of you who aren't already familiar with Lenny, it is not a person. Lenny is actually an email newsletter founded and driven by two incredibly talented women, Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner. Once you subscribe to Lenny you will be blessed (and I do mean blessed) with special Inbox deliveries twice a week. Better known as 'Lenny Letters', each contain a masterful collection of stories, interviews, articles and musings that offer anything from thorough entertainment to extreme enlightenment.

Now getting back to my story. When Lenny came onto the scene I knew it was going to be good. Better than good, I knew it would be something groundbreaking, empowering, witty, intelligent and out to challenge my often narrow minded view on things.

What I didn't know is that the stories would remind me of who I really am... I'd forgotten her and I'd forgotten that it actually felt great to be her!

When I sat down and really thought about it, I realised that most of the cool, funny and interesting articles I read today inspire me to be someone else. Or worse, to envy someone else. So you can understand why I found it rather magical when I discovered something that made me feel extremely proud to be me.

Therefore I wanted to thank Lenny for the little pieces of happiness, humour and motivation it has given me and also for the things it has taught me (so far)... To appreciate true individuality and to accept tough and imperfect circumstances because I now better understand that everyone experiences their own battles and must fight them in their own way.

I am thankful not just because Lenny gives me all of this and more, but mostly because it asks for absolutely nothing in return. Not a common thing in this day and age.

So thank you Lenny, I bloody love you.

Ps. Just before I finished this post I started to doubt whether I wanted to publish it. Mainly because I wasn't sure I'd written it well enough and been able to convey my message clearly, but also because I felt "what's the point?"

Well just yesterday I received another Lenny letter and the first article started like this, "I’m nervous writing this essay. I’m terrified you may not like it. What if I waste your time? What if you don’t think I’m funny? What if you think it’s boring, or, God forbid, not as good as the other letters on Lenny?"

Freakishly it was exactly what I needed to hear.

I know that what I have written may not be perfect, but it is sincere and that's good enough for me... whether or not it's good enough for you is totally worth the risk.

Knowing the rules and when to break them.

My original intention for this post was to compile a weeks worth of outfit snap shots, but I only managed one. Evidently I have to invest more time in this area..!

Quotes from an anti quoter

Wise words from Marc Jacobs:

"Young girls need to learn that sexiness isn't about being naked."

"I always find beauty in things that are odd and imperfect - they are much more interesting."

"I don't think you can be all things to all people and still have a point of view."

The gift of gifting.

I'm addicted. So here's an excitable rant outlining my Christmas shopping adventures.

Any excuse to dress up.

And another Darwin Cup Carnival bites the dust. The atmosphere may be intoxicating down at the racetrack, but it's planning and putting together an outfit that I find to be the most enjoyable and exciting part of the racing season.

A Human side to the MET Gala.

My respect for Vogue went up a notch when I learned that one of my all time favourite photographers and bloggers, Brandon Stanton of 'Humans of New York', had been approached to capture some of his usual magic at this year's MET Gala.

BIG beats little (in this instance anyway).

Clearly I am a lover of the little things. But sometimes life can throw you something big. And that is also very loveable.

Racy vs Racewear

This is something I've wanted to discuss for a long time.

When did racewear get so darn racy?

Backless dresses, micro mini skirts, plunging necklines, sheer fabrics and heavy makeup. A very difficult and sensitive argument I know, because ultimately who decides on what is 'appropriate' and what is not? And should there really be rules when it comes to fashion?

I just believe that racewear deserves some respect. Something can be fun & flirty and still brush the knees, fitted and elegant and still allow you to bend over. A little imagination is all you need.

Now it's your say, what do you think? Am I just a prude, hooked on tradition who desperately needs to get with the times? OR, is it time for racewear to raise the bar?

The swing of things.

I've been lacking spare time and a clear head this past month and a half. Which means my blog has been seriously neglected and I feel downright awful about it.

I figured I wasn't going to post anything until I had something really awesome to share with you all. Truth is, it may not be very awesome to anyone other than myself!

Anyway, I've recently purchased a few new pieces (yes that means outfit shoots are coming!), practiced a few new tricks on the camera and scratched my head some more about creating a proper blogger identity. A true mixture of soul searching and f*cking around, the immediate result is a shiny new 'About TLT' profile page!

Check it out and let me know what you think. I'm getting back in the swing of things.

Dressing for a (wo)man.

I want to ask you a question. Do you dress for a man, or do you dress for a woman?

What repels Who?

To be, or not to be.

I'm sitting here stumped. Contemplating what on earth to do about my blogger profile. Can I just leave it blank? Do you really need to know anything about me?

Alexander Wang – Behavioural Scientist?

Nothing can prepare you for the horror show that is Alexander Wang's recent publicity stunt, where he gives away free clothes to a group of unassuming New York City fans.

I fell for a bird.

I was walking past a clothing shop when something feathery and colourful caught my eye.

Another reason why I love LOVER.

You can't get more pretty or more pure than the 2013 LOVER campaign featuring British model Karen Elson.

You're Kidman me.

I have never been a very big fan of Nicole Kidman. So when I heard that Jimmy Choo had chosen her to be the face of their latest campaign I wasn't exactly excited to see the results.

A different view

The other day I came across a fascinating quote. At first I was extremely surprised that I had never heard or seen this quote before... especially seeing as Alexander Wang, a designer I'm very fond of, was the one who said it.

The Why

Eventually I will publish five posts illustrating the meaning (if any) of 'why' I am here (Who, What, Where, When and Why). In no particular order.

I am not a very good writer and I am not a very good photographer... and these are two qualities that I believe define a good blogger.

So why am I here?

Well for the simple fact that I've got a voice (or more so a capable keyboard), and I love* fashion*.

*The only reason I say love is because it's the easiest way to describe my unhealthy obsession, fascination, respect and overwhelming desire for clothing, accessories, shoes, hats, hairstyles, makeup, sunglasses, bags and any other luxury items.

*The only reason I say fashion is because it's the easiest way to summarize the stylish, elegant, iconic, exclusive, funky, glamorous, timeless and unique designer goods that I long to posses.

Luxury

Q: What makes something or someone great? What puts you at the top of the game?

I'm talking about clothing designers, cars, or an architectural masterpiece. I'm talking about anything with an outrageous price tag and a reputation to boot. Whether little or big, service or product, I'm talking about luxury.

A: I believe that it's attention to detail. It's when passion oozes out of the product. It's when you touch or see something, and this simple act can make you feel like the luckiest person on earth. It's also about exclusivity. Sadly it's the sort of thing that contradicts the expression "that feeling money can't buy", because most of the time you really do need money...

The bottom line, I love luxury. Even if I can rarely afford it.
